North Section of Eaglemount Route Selected
A very momentous day in Jefferson County! The Board of County Commissioners approved the plan by Public Works to continue the extension of the Larry Scott Trail as the Olympic Discovery Trail southward on the Quimper Peninsula to connect Four Corners Rd. to Anderson Lake State Park (ALSP).
This marks the culmination of nearly 4 years of promotion and encouragement, scouting and research by the Peninsula Trails Coalition.
The current authorization concerns only the region between Four Corners Rd(at the PUD storage yard) and the west boundary of ALSP, a distance of approximately 2 & 1/2 miles. This allows Public Works to enter into formal agreements with landowners to acquire properties (all on a willing-seller basis) upon which the ODT will continue in the direction of Discovery Bay.
The State Parks & Recreation Commission will budget the extension of the ODT through the Park (approximately 1 & 1/2 mi.) when Jefferson County is able to demonstrate control and tenure of the land as described above. The result will be nearly four miles of new trail to Anderson Lake Rd and will set the overall project well on its way to reach its final goal at Discovery Bay.
Thanks to the Commissioners, County Administrator, the meticulous work done by thePublic Works staff, and to all volunteers and supporters involved.
And a special mention of Mr. Hall Baetz, whose dedication and passion for this project, made this day possible!
The BLUE line is the approved route.
